They further disclosed that the party will hold its midterm convention in 2018 to ensure the transferring of power from Sheriff to a southerner. It is yet to be made clear which geopolitical zone in the south will be handed over the party chairmanship in 2019. Speaking after the BoT meeting, the newly-elected National Secretary of the board, Chief Ojo Maduekwe, said “All the grievances articulated by members of the party to make it stronger, should be carefully looked into and we would see how we could carry everybody along. “…Mid-term convention should come in 2018 and from that date, the chairman of the party would step down to pave the way for another person to come from the South.” The May 21 convention of the party, billed to take place in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, will still hold.
