Must Read ; could this be naija???

In our garden of Eden

In our garden of Eden
barren trees to design our paths
the spoilt fruits within our reach
skinny legs and battered knees
the palm trees gaze at us with scorn
high in their heavens they stare
we plead just to touch the fallen fruits
puny as we are without hope
your clinical gaze makes us shrink

In our garden of Eden
the rumbling of my stomach
is the melodious dirge sung
Tigris, Euphrates, Pishon, Gihon
stuck in a drainage of dirt
mixed with the blood of a thousand
oil floating on it
Adam looks on with broken bones and sunken eyes
his hoe stuck to the ground
in a land beyond repair

In our garden of Eden
we still crawl and till the dead soil
with pleading eyes to the palm trees
Eve looks on with painted lips
skimpy, tattered skirts with skinny legs
to survive, the price we must pay
in a fruitful barren land
we crawl for help; to the palm tree
pleading, eyes drained of tears
we lay our backs at the bank of the river
and hope for leftovers
no hope to be hoped for
In our garden of Eden.

PS: Garden of Eden symbolises a place or nation going through suffering as a result of bad leaders and inhumane treatment
