Former Super Eagles captain and coach Stephen Keshi has passed on, TheCable reports.
The website reports that he died of a cardiac arrest in Benin City, Edo state, in the early hours of Wednesday morning. He was meant to travel to the United States later today.
Keshi, the only Nigerian coach to have won the African cup of Nations, lost his wife of 35 years, Kate, to cancer in 2015 and a friend that spoke to The Cable said the death of his wife played a major role in his sudden demise as he hardly ever recovered from her loss.
The friend was quoted as saying, “He was not ill at all, never showed any signs of illness, but we suspect he never got over the death of his wife.”
Keshi is survived by four children and his mother.
